ULTRA HIGH PERFORMANCE
October 1960
If you didn't get out to Deer Valley Airport the last weekend in October you missed seeing one of the highest performance sailplanes in the world. John Ryan flew his Sisu I, and that 41 to 1 glide ratio at 62 mph is a marvel. John went to Arlington, Texas and picked up his ship the first of October. Leonard Nemi, the designer and builder, has done
a terrific job on an all-metal ship. You should hear Clay Hartman extol the beauties of this ship but then, just ask any ASA member who has seen it fly and inspected the fine workmanship. No wonder John wanted it. But it won't be flying any more this fall and
winter. It's in Joe Lincoln's sailplane haven and John is going to fill in every spot that interrupts the laminar flow over the wings. We hope he reaches his goal of a 44 to 1 glide ratio with all that hard work ahead. Even if he doesn't, the present ratio of 25 to 1 at 105 mph ought to be good enough for some new state, national and international records.

NEW OPERATIONS SITE
October 1960
We have been welcomed to the new Deer Valley airport and started flying there the 2lst of October, when the 2-22 was towed in from Cottonwood with Chuck Doty at the controls and John Ryan flying the tow ship. Thanks go to John Ryan, Joe Lincoln and others for arranging this perfect setup. To get to our operations site, drive north on 19th Avenue about two miles north of Bell Road, only fifteen miles from the center of Phoenix. 19th Avenue crosses the west end of the airport runway. If we are taking off to the East, be sure to park well north of the runway along the road. If we are taking off to the west, continue on this same road (it leads north and east to the drag strip) and you will see our operations on the east end of the field.
